The St. Margaret's Bay Food Bank provides food, household essentials, and seasonal support throughout the year to individuals and families in need across St. Margaret's Bay and surrounding communities. We are a registered charitable organization and a proud member of Feed Nova Scotia, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and supported by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers committed to helping people access food and support with dignity and respect.

How we help
Monthly food support including non-perishables, perishables like fresh produce, milk, eggs and meat. Call ahead to schedule an appointment.

Affordable clothing, toys, and household items. Fill a bag for $20. Every dollar raised goes towards the Food Bank to help local families.

How do I access the food bank
How do I access the food bank
The food bank is by appointment only. Call us during operating hours (Tuesday–Saturday, 11am–4pm) to book your appointment. If you need delivery, registered clients should call Bay Rides at 902-820-6600, who will book a food bank appointment on your behalf.

Clients can access the food bank once per month.

Yes, for clients who are unable to access the Food Bank due to a lack of transportation. Through our partnership with Bay Rides, delivery is available to registered Food Bank clients who require transportation assistance.
Existing clients: Call Bay Rides at 902-820-6600 to arrange your delivery.
New clients: Please contact the Food Bank first to complete your registration. Once you are registered, you can contact Bay Rides to arrange delivery, subject to their availability.
Please note that this is not a general delivery service and is intended for clients who are unable to pick up their food due to transportation barriers.

Our coverage area includes:
Highway 333 to Peggy's Cove;
Highway 3 from the Crossroads to Hubbards (Lunenburg County Line);
Highway 3 from the Crossroads to Exit 4; and
Hammonds Plains Road (civic number 2197 and greater).
Please note: Timberlea, Lakeside, and Beechville are not included in our coverage area.

How can I donate food or funds?
We gratefully accept food, funds, and in-kind donations from individuals, businesses, schools, and community organizations. Donated funds are used to purchase grocery items not typically received through food drives. Donations may also be designated to meet a specific need by the donor.

Is the Thrift Store open to everyone?
Yes, the Thrift Store is open to everyone. Drop in is available from Tuesday to Saturday, 11:30am–3:30pm. You can currently fill a bag for $20, and every dollar raised goes directly toward the food bank.

Donations of new and used clothing, toys, and small household items can be dropped off at the blue donation bins at 9A Sonny's Road during thrift store hours or in small quantites after hours. If the bins are full, please do not leave items outside, instead, hold your donation and bring it back when the store is open.

When is the food bank closed?
The Food Bank is closed on Sundays, Mondays and statutory holidays, as well as during severe weather and power outages. We also usually close for two weeks over Christmas. The Thrift Store follows the same schedule. Always call ahead if you are unsure.

On your first visit you will be asked to complete a registration form. Please bring a valid ID and proof of address. These are the only documents required to register.
